Obituary of Terence James Boyle
Terence James (Terry) Boyle died peacefully on Sunday November 5th, 2023 at Markham
Stouffville Hospital. Terry was born on July 8th, 1937 in London, England to James Boyle
and Doris Alger and was predeceased by his loving wife Ann Boyle (nee Howden) of 51
years.
Loving Dad to Julia (Paul), Tony, Lynne, and a surrogate father to Rob Logan (Susan).
Loving Grandad to Sean, Sarah, Kyle, Christine, Sonja, Scott, and Brady. His sense of
humour, kindness, and general trivia knowledge will be greatly missed at all family
gatherings. Terry wants his family to remember him for loving their mother, loving them, and
for coming to Canada.
After time with the Royal Air Force where he was stationed in Hong Kong and nearly pressed
into action during the Suez Crisis he embarked on a long and enjoyable career in general
insurance. His career started in England and ended with his retirement as the Vice President
of Claims at Royal & Sun Alliance in Toronto, the firm he joined and worked at for 32 years
after immigrating to Canada.
Terry was a longstanding resident of Markham, having lived in the same house for 52 years.
He was an avid soccer (football) player and fan and was very involved in the Markham
Soccer Club as the President, a founding member of the girls' soccer league, head referee, and
a coach to all of his children. Terry was also a member at Markham Centennial Fitness Club,
playing in numerous squash leagues and in his later years enjoying executive workouts. He
loved golf and claimed that his life's "unfinished work" was becoming a scratch golfer! Over
the years he and Ann travelled extensively around the world and were part of a 30+ years
ethnic dinner club with friends who loved to eat globally while travelling locally. More
recently he was a worthy opponent of euchre, cribbage and snooker at the Markham Seniors
Centre. Terry instilled a love of reading in all his children and most evenings could be found
sitting in his lazy boy recliner by the front window reading a book from the library.
