Maura Harrington

Obituary of Maura Harrington

Maura Harrington passed away at her home surrounded with love on Sunday September 3, 2023, in her 90th year. Predeceased by her beloved husband Michael. Loving and much-loved mom to her children Sean (Bev), Noel (Beverly), Brian (Grazia) and Deirdre (Doug).  She was a cherished grandmother (as long as you didn’t call her that) to Ben, Patrick, Jaime and Devin.

Maura was born Mary Delia Costello and raised on a farm in County Mayo, Ireland.  She met Michael Harrington at a dancehall in Dublin, and the rest, as they say, is history. She immigrated to Toronto when she was 24, but returned to Ireland many, many times over her long life. Loved by everyone who met her. She was grounded. Determined. Stubborn. Unsentimental. Generous. Curious. Loved to laugh. Didn’t take herself or life too seriously. She didn’t care about wealth or material things. What mattered most to her was being with the people she loved, good conversation, time in her garden, dinners with family and friends, listening to her Irish radio program, and travelling.

Maura will be deeply missed by her family and friends, both here and in Ireland, and will be always and forever in our hearts and minds. Céad Mile Fáilte await you in heaven.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Justin the Martyr Catholic Church at 3898 Hwy. 7 (East of Warden), Markham on Monday September 11 at 10:30 am.
