Obituary of Elizabeth Alta Virgin
Elizabeth Alta Virgin
1950 - 2023
In her 73rd year and after a courageous battle with cancer, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Liz at Markham Stouffville Hospital on August 27, 2023. Wife of Garry, beloved mother of Rosalind Wright (Kevin) and Gregory, she was sister and best friend to Margaret O’Connell as well as cherished first cousin to Sara Mitchell. Liz, who loved family, was a very proud grannie to Peyton, Isla, and Finlay who were the love of her life. Grieving alongside them is sister-in-law Elaine Fraser (Neil) and nephews Darryl and Kevin, niece Laurie O’Connell (Ron Delorme), and nephews Stephen and Michael also share in our loss. Born in Brockville, Ontario to Robert Martin Graham and Jean Scott Wilson Jackson, Liz was educated in her hometown before moving to Toronto in her early adult years. After obtaining a diploma in Social Services from Centennial College she set about a career helping those in need. Soon after marriage Liz settled down in the town of Markham where she went about raising a family along with Garry. It was here that she established so many long lasting friendships throughout her life. Most notable were those which evolved while managing Garry’s optometric practice. Markham Skating Club, Markham Minor Hockey, Markham Men’s Recreational Hockey League, York Downs Golf Club, and Delta Bingo were also important sources of friendship throughout her life. Family time at the cottage in Parry
Sound was a pastime which brought great pleasure to her for many years. It was an opportunity to relax and enjoy one of her favorite pastimes, namely gaming. Whether it was crosswords, board games,
or today’s electronic games, she was always first in and last out. Her generosity and concern for others had no limits, and her friendly manner will live on in the hearts of those she touched. In keeping with
Liz’s wishes there will be no funeral or visitation, rather a private family celebration of life followed by interment at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Toronto. For those who wish to, donations would be appreciated to
the Markham Stouffville Hospital Foundation or the charity of your choice. Missed by many and forever dear in our hearts, may she rest in peace.
