To the Priestley Family,
Sincere condolences to you all in the loss of a beloved husband, father and grandfather. Also a good friend to many. Sam was always welcome at St. Andrews in Newmarket and we all enjoyed his time here. His friendly manner and always a smile and good humor will be forever remembered.
RIP Sam and you will be miss but forever loved by so many and never forgotten.
Sincerely, Gary and Alice Johnston, Newmarket, On.

Carol and family,
Sam worked tirelessly at whatever position he was asked to fulfil. He served as Interim Moderator [pro tem] at St. Paul’s Vaughan Presbyterian Church and it was my duty as Clerk of Session to talk to him weekly. Our weekly phone visits were a pleasure, an education and whole world problem discussions. If Sam had been put in charge we would certainly live in a much better world.
I was on “Team” Priestley for the General Assembly meetings and it seemed that everyone knew Sam. If you had a difference of opinion with Sam at Presbytery you knew you were in for a battle of wit, language, quoted scripture and no quarter taken or asked for. It made Presbytery fun and exciting.
I know he will be missed by all his many friends. I hope there is a good supply of single malt scotch in heaven.
Lea and I send our love and sympathy to Carol and all their extended families. You lost a good man and a hard worker. We have lost a good friend.
With our love and sympathy,
David and Lea Rutherford
