Margot Roll

Obituary of Margot Christel Roll

Margot Christel Roll passed away on July 16, 2022 at Amica Swan Lake at the age of 84.

Margot leaves behind her beloved husband, Henry, after more than 61 years of marriage.  A week before her passing, when someone asked Henry who the lady next to him was, she answered for him, with a smile, “I’m his sweetheart.”  And indeed, she is.  Margot and Henry were inseparable.  Together they built a family and a life that made Margot very proud and fulfilled.

To her family, Margot was known simply as Oma.  Her favourite place was the cottage, where she could be found swimming as many times as possible each day from the time that the lake was not unbearably cold in the spring until the last possible day in late summer.  When not in the water, Margot could be found baking her infamous Streuselkuchen, or “crummy cake” as she called it, or cooking a dinner that often included Henry’s favourite noodle side dish, Spaetzle, which she would proudly proclaim she had made by hand, not with a machine, and which she often served up with Schnitzel.  Each day at the cottage included a Kafeeklatsch with friends and neighbours and Margot also loved to go for a slow boat ride around the lake, which she coined a “tuk tuk” for the sound of the motor.  The phrase stuck and it is still used to this day by young and old alike to describe a leisurely tour around the lake.

In addition to Henry, Margot will be deeply missed by her daughter Monica, her son Steven, her daughter-in-law Sandra, her grandchildren Avery, Tyler, Evan and Dean, her sister Gisela and husband Peter, as well as her niece Tanya, husband Dan and their son, Carson.  Margot was predeceased by her granddaughter Nicole, for whom she cared tirelessly and selflessly through an extended period of disability.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Amica Swan Lake and the palliative team of nurses and doctors for their compassionate care of Margot.

There will be a private celebration of life for close family and friends at a date and place to be announced.
