Obituary of Robert Joseph McDonell
Surrounded by his family, Bob passed away in peace at Markham Stouffvile Hospital on Tuesday May 31, 2022. Born in Toronto on June 18th, 1930 to Alexander and Clara McDonell, he was married to Mary McDonell for 58 years. He was the beloved father of Anne Marie Wilson(Ron), Joanne McDonell, Patricia Perek(John) and Robert John McDonell. He was a loving grandfather to Sam, Catherine and Samantha and great-grandchild, Oliver. Bob treasured his relationships with his siblings - Irene, Lillian, Mel and Anita and their families. Bob was also blessed with the love of numerous nieces, nephews and cousins of the extended McDonell and Newton families.
Throughout his life, Bob worked hard to provide for his family and was an active participant in church and charitable activities in his community. Bob and Mary were enthusiastic hosts to many dinners and parties with friends and family. Bob loved dancing and singing and was known for his Bing Crosby-like crooning voice. He enjoyed singing in choirs and with friends and family for sing-alongs. He loved to play cards and wise-crack with his children and friends. Bob liked nothing more than to kid-around and tell a good joke…and sometimes, he was even successful…the groans could be heard for miles around. He loved summers in cottage country, winters in Florida and travel through Europe and across Canada. He was cherished by many life-long friends, who along with his family will miss the warmth of his big heart. He is now with God.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Church on Tuesday June 7th at 10:30 am located at 5633 Highway 7, Markham ON and followed by his internment at Christ the King Cemetery, Markham
