Obituary of Jeannette Frances Serota

Passed away peacefully at Sunrise of Unionville on May 31, 2022. Jenny was born in Merrill, Wisconsin on March 4, 1940 and is predeceased by her parents Ervin and Anne Scheu. She spent her final days surrounded by her three attentive and adoring children, Kelly (Paul) DuMaresq, Ken Serota, and Karen Serota. Her small suite overflowed with the laughter, stories, and tears of her five granddaughters, Heidi DuMaresq (Curtis Robinson), Heather DuMaresq (Troy Hilson), Allie Serota (Danny Valente), Kristie Serota (Sarah Glaser), and Grace Draznin. As well as special friends Dorothy Thomas, Charlie Dunton and Ken Draznin.

For those who knew her, Jenny's house was a Markham institution. From the comfort of her front porch, she made friends with neighbours and watched the town grow and evolve over the past five decades. Jenny cherished her garden and home, which she filled with thousands of books and hundreds of porcelain Friar Tucks, a collecting hobby she enthusiastically shared with her late husband Hal Serota (1935-2008). She bequeathed her love of storytelling, antiquing, baking, gardening, and card games to her family. Although Jenny was an only child, she grew up in a bustling family of aunts, uncles and over 50 first cousins living in Wisconsin and across the US. Jenny's presence and laughter will be dearly missed, and the family takes solace in knowing that wherever she is, Hal, the love of her life, is there to greet her. 

Family and friends will be received at the Dixon-Garland Funeral Home on Monday June 20th from 7-9pm. The Memorial Service will take place in the chapel on Tuesday June 21st at 11am.

In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Markham Food Bank would be appreciated by Jenny’s family.
