Obituary of Patricia Gail Winnett

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Patricia (Pat) Gail Winnett on February 21, 2022, peacefully at Cottage Hospital in Uxbridge, Ontario.  Pat was born in Toronto, Ontario to Margaret and Jim Steel (deceased) on September 15, 1942 and raised in Etobicoke, Ontario along with her sister Nancy (deceased) and her brother Frank (Elizabeth).  Pat attended the University of Toronto where she obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics, and met her future husband Peter Winnett, who was studying Pharmacy.

Married in 1966, Pat was a loving wife to Peter for more than 50 years until Peter’s passing in November 2019.  Pat is survived by her four children: Paul (Anna), Elaine, Brian (Monica) and Dianne (Tom) who mourn her passing.   Pat will also be sadly missed by her nine grandchildren: James, John, Chantal, Sydney, Nicole, Will, Emily, Austin and Drew.  In addition to her immediate family, Pat was a member of a large extended family and enjoyed getting together often with her many cousins, aunts and uncles. Pat was a patron of the performing arts, and took joy in regularly attending performances at the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, and numerous plays at the Shaw and Stratford Festivals. Pat will be remembered by all who knew her for her love of cards and games, especially bridge, her adventurous spirit as evidenced by her many voyages to all corners of the world, her appreciation of good food, and her desire to spend quality time with friends and family. 

A memorial service to honour Pat will be held on Friday March 11, 2022 at 11 am at Dixon Garland Funeral Home in Markham, followed by an internment at Grace Church Cemetery. Prior to the service, visitation will take place Thursday March 10, 2022 from 4 – 7 pm also at Dixon Garland Funeral Home, 166 Main Street North, Markham.
