Obituary of Elida Caliri

Elida Aporta Caliri, Our beloved Abuela, died peacefully at the age of 93 on Feb. 22, 2022 at Bethany Lodge, surrounded by her family. Born on April 11, 1928 in Mendoza, Argentina – to Ramon Aporta and Vicenta Quintero, she had 8 sisters and 1 brother – she was the last surviving sibling. She married Domingo Caliri, the love of her life – on April 27^th, 1946 – they had 53 beautiful years together, before he was taken from her on Oct 18^th, 1999. Their legacy lives on in their 2 daughters Ana Maria Cosimo (Carlos) and Gladys Mabee (Dan), their 4 grandchildren, Lorena (Don), Carolyn (Michal), Derek (Amanda) and Justin (Courtney) and her 7 Great Grandchildren, Samuel, Magdalena, Gabriel, Nevaeh, Mila, Aaba and Leah. As well as the many nieces and nephews and all the great friends both in Canada and Argentina. Her greatest happiness was in taking care of her family – by cooking and caring for them, even well into her 80’s. She loved to read, knit, garden and would do her sudoku’s daily. Anyone who ever had the fortune to eat her empanadas will tell you, they had no equal.

Her funeral mass will be held on Thursday March 3^rd at 1:30pm at St. Patrick’s Church at 5633 Hwy 7, Markham. Her family would appreciate that in lieu of flowers, donations could be made to the Alzheimers Society.
