Obituary of Nancy Jean Burrow
Nancy Jean Burrow July 20, 1931 - January 30, 2022
Nancy Burrow was born and grew up in Toronto. She was the youngest of 4 children. The family cottaged on Sturgeon Lake outside Lindsay, Ontario. Her maternal Sutcliffe grandparents owned a home, and a dry goods business in Lindsay.
Upon her high school graduation, she attended McGill University where she earned her Dietetics Degree through MacDonald Agricultural College. Nancy interned as a Dietitian at Vancouver General Hospital in the early 1950’s.
Nancy married Bill Burrow in 1955. Together they had three children. She was a fantastic and varied cook, regularly testing out new recipes on Bill and the three kids.
Nancy worked as a dietician: for Lowry’s, GayLea Foods, Coca Cola, and ran her own consulting business until she and Bill retired. For some years they spent winters in Arizona and Florida.
Nancy was a long time member of the Ladies’ Golf Club of Toronto. In 1924 when founder Ada MacKenzie was looking to acquire a piece of land where ladies who couldn’t play on men’s courses could find a place to play, she approached various women she knew and asked Nancy’s mother, Mary Muriel Morton, if she would be a supporter. Nancy’s mother gave Ada about $150.00 and was given a stake in the future club. She was not a golfer. In the late 50’s Nancy’s mother gave her young married daughter the stake, and Nancy became a member. She played almost until the last 5 years of her life.
Upon full retirement, Nancy and Bill moved to Ballantrae where they enjoyed a full life of golf, bridge, social events, six grandchildren, and travel, until and after Bill’s passing in 2003. Nancy was a valued and skilled bridge player and was sought after, sometimes playing twice a day when people needed a ringer to sub (in addition to her regular games).
In 2019, Nancy became a great grandmother when her great grandson arrived in BC. In 2020, when Nancy needed more help, she moved to Lindsay to be closer to her son where she received attentive care just blocks from his house.
One day in February 2022 her second great grandchild will be born in BC, and so her family continues to grow and she will be remembered by another generation.

“Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.” John 14:2 King James Version
