In our younger days, a bunch of high-school buddies all managed to play on the same Rep team for many years. We were fortunate to get to know each other and our parents also were connected through hockey and actively supported the team which quickly became a family.
Some parents took a more active role with the team and Mr. C was one of those parents. In the dressing room and on the bench, Mr. C was always upbeat, positive and fun to be around.
During one of our tournaments, the parents were, as usual, gathered in one room playing cards and telling stories and we were, as usual, running reckless throughout the motel and playing hockey in the snow outside.
Mr. C. joined us in the parking lot to "check up" on us. After surveying the motel and making sure were well intact and accounted for, he offered to treat us to a drink from the pop machine. He disappeared into the parents' party room and returned with several cups. He showed us the old style pop machine that had a vertical row of Coke bottles laying on their side with their caps facing outward. Mr. C lined us up tallest to shortest and told us to choose our bottle and get the cups ready. He proceeded to open each bottle and then tipped the pop machine forward pouring the pop into our cups.
That was a typical Mr. C moment.
I have such clarity of those wonderful times that we shared with our parents. As time has passed, my memory of the game has become small, but the memory of the circle of family and friends remains immense.
I can still picture Mr. C with absolute clarity at the end of the bench working "the gate" and always a kind word regardless of the shift or the score.

Gary was a sharp wit, quick to see the humour, with a twinkle in his eye. He was a pleasure to work with and will be missed. Condolences to Pat and family.

Life brings us together in many different ways. When I was a very young child we lived on Zambi walk in Scarborough, just down the street from the Cadaret’s. The Bell’s moved to Unionville and The Cadaret family moved to Markham. Our family paths would cross again when my brother Jamie and Troy became great friends....Who can forget Mrs. Cadaret the wonderful secretary at Markham High. Many years later Steve and I move to Lagoon City, you guessed it, Mr. and Mrs. Cadaret rent a house one Lagoon over. Then as fate would have it, they loved Lagoon City and bought a house across the street from us. We started to become friends and Mr and Mrs Cadaret started saying we should call them Pat and Gary. Finally, after walks, concerts on the Lagoon and many dinner parties, it is now, Pat and Gary. What an amazing loving family, so honoured to call you our friends. You will be missed Mr Cadaret, good bye Gary. I know you are in heaven, if you could do me a favour and say hello to Jeffrey for us xxoo

Dear Pat, Troy, Kim and family:
My sincere condolences on the passing of our Dear Gary.
My first memory of Gary was when he was 13 or 14 and stayed with my family for about a week while his parents were away. My younger sister and I followed him around as he was older and lots of fun. Houses were in the process of being build up the street from our house; a place my sister and I never went as we were only about 6 and 4 years old. Gary, being curious and probably bored took us up the street and into those houses. While we were in one of the houses he scared the living daylights out of us telling us the boogy man was coming and ran out. My sister and I ran out after him screaming and crying all the way home. I'm sure my mother was ready to clobber him as she had two fightened little girls to deal with.
Throughout my life I heard stores about Gary from my late grandmother Margurite, my late mother Marie and my Aunt Bertha. They always spoke so very fondly of him. Back then the two families were very close. When Gary was born my mother was 14 and my aunt was12. My Aunt baby-sat him when he was little and over the years he always refered to her as "The Baby-Sitter". Over the years we exchanged Christmas Cards, phone calls and saw each other at family weddings.
I will miss my cousin Gary. Troy and Kim take good care of your mother and treasure her as you did your dad.
A wise man once told me "Good People are Always Missed". Gary was an exceptionaly good person and will be missed by all who knew him and loved him.
With Love and Blessings Always,
xxxLinda Greigxxx
