Lloyd, David and members of the Smith families, I've just learned that your dad Ernie had passed away recently and I'd like to express my condolences to you all. Ernie and my father Everson (Gus) worked together for about 30 years at the Massey test track and I know that Ernie and Betty were held in the highest regard by my parents. I'm sorry for your loss.

My sincere condolences to both Lloyd, David and extended family on the passing of Ernest.
I have a memory of your dad at a Rouge Valley church St Patricks function standing on a chair showing off his knees. He had I believe been chosen as the winner in some contest... maybe the nicest or nobbiest, who knows. It was far from the quiet, more reserved man that I had known growing up but fun to see just the same. Always friendly and a very kind man. May he rest in peace.

Our condolences to you Dave and Lloyd. I’ll never forget working with your dad those few short weeks in the summer of 1982 at the Massey Ferguson test track. I have fond memories. Your dad was just back from an expedition in the US and was debriefing to the rest of the crew in the lunch room.

A very humble and quiet man who enjoyed good company and stories. Shared a few good conversations and sharing times at Rouge Valley Men's Nights and with our last meetings with coffee clatches with Glen Brubacher in Stouffville. Great talking about old times. Could never get over how young he appeared. He was certainly ageless in his appearance and demeanor. He will be missed and loved by many.

Dear Lloyd and David,
I'm so sorry we've lost your Dad. I had such a little crush on him when I was 5 or 6 before he married Aunt Betty and I think I was a little jealous when he did. I remember him playing with me, swinging me upside down like I was a pendulum of a clock and saying loudly "tick tock".
I was childishly fascinated with the lump that was all that remained of his thumb. His cowboy boots and silver buckle seemed exotic to me and I treasured a piece of petrified wood he gave to me that he had acquired in the Petrified Forest on his many travels. When we were in last in Ontario, Ron and I spoke to him about 2years ago when he was visiting Mom and we shared a meal at Chartwell Retirement Centre. Take care of yourselves and each other.
Love,
Colleen
