One of life's biggest challenges are the deaths of friends or loved ones. The particularly difficult are the passing of folks that are hard working, humble and well loved. Such is the case with the passing of George. We will always remember his smiling face and insightful wisdom through many conversations over coffee at church events or Tim Horton's every Friday morning. I can still remember the surprise we had when we first saw him at the Markham Fair feeding wood into his demonstration steam engine. We still cherish the "bird house" art work he built for us complete with a police car at the bottom of the stairs. Never quite understood the connection between the two... maybe a place for "jail birds".
His peaceful ending reflects the life he led and the example he left behind.

I met George in 2017 when I was compiling stories about the early history of Markham (Reesorville).
I went back and visited George and Anna a few times after that before they moved. George was a fascinating man, full of knowledge, insight, goodwill, and humour. He has contributed so much to Markham and meant a great deal to so many people. He will be missed and remembered.

Dear Anna Catherine, Louise, Ernest, Dale and Families
George had the same knack as his father for making one feel valued and interesting. Conversation with him was always uplifting. Your family, indeed the world, has lost a special treasure. We must all take a page from his ‘ book’ on how to live our lives. My deepest, sincerest sympathies are with you all. Carol Wildgoose (née Armstrong)
