Dear Janet, Ash, Brett, Lorne and all of Wally’s family,
Wally’s service today was a beautiful and moving farewell. It is with heavy hearts that we extend our deepest sadness for your loss. Although you couldn’t see us, we were there, with so many, to share in your profound pain and tears. Janet, Ash, Lorne, Helen and Irene - each of your words had a common bond....a deep LOVE for a husband, father, brother.
Wally expressed kindness, friendship, affection, generosity and always did so accompanied by a huge and obvious, heartfelt smile and famous hug. These qualities appeared effortless for him and so genuine, like his much loved old cars.
There is no truer account of any man’s life than the words of those who knew him best. The stories shared today and in these posts reveal the kind of man he was. How many can say they left this earth with no regrets...not Wally! He has left us with gifts we can all be grateful for. May your cherished and loving memories be a comfort and provide strength in the days and months ahead especially during your firsts without him.
God bless you Wally, and may your memory be eternal. Enjoy your journey to paradise amongst the angels. Your loved ones are rejoicing as they prepare to welcome you to your heavenly home where there is no pain but music and rainbows forever!

Wally served as President on the Board of Directors that I work with. He made the experience so much more enjoyable. His diplomatic, compassion and overall approach showed his down-to-core good nature. After life took me down another path, he was an instrumental piece in my decision to come back and work for this Board again. He always took the time to see how my day, task and struggles (if any) were going and provided assistance any which way he could.
Over the years of working together, we quite often exchanged personal stories and I got to learn about his other passions such as real estate, cars, and his dedication to his family. I remember once overhearing a conversation with him and his wife, Janet and I could tell just by the way he spoke to her, how much he loved her. He often talked about the grandkids and brought them into the office to “show them off” with his love for them gleaming.
He provided valuable advice and really became a person that I could turn to for help whether that be personal or work-related.
I know he would take little weekend or day trips, or attend car shows etc. He enjoyed life and all the little things about it. I wish he had more time to do things like that.
Wally was a great man and will be sorely missed.

Sending you all my heartfelt condolences. Wally was such a special person who touched the lives of many people. I remember my dear cousin was like a big brother to me, always looking out for me when I was younger. I like to believe that when we lose someone so loved, they still live through us and give us strength to go on. Wally, you will always be remembered with love.

Lois and I were so very sad to learn of Wally’s passing. He was such a kind and thoughtful person. We’ll never forget the day he brought his beloved Miniature Schnauzer over to our backyard so we could meet him. We had just added our two wee Schnauzies to our family and it was such a joy to see them all playing together. That was such a fun day!
Our sincerest condolences go out to all of his family and friends.
May God Bless.

Farewell old friend.
I have known Wally for 60 years. We went to school together and continued as friend afterwards. We had many common interest to keep our friendship strong over the years. It was an honor to have Wally be my best man at my wedding and God father of my first born. As time passed on we focused on our own private lives but still continued to stay in touch. The last time I saw Wally was a few years back for lunch. Wally, it was an honor to know and to have you as a friend. Ken Yoksimovich.

I am deeply saddened to learn about Wally's passing. Wally was President of his Rotary Club during Rotary's Centennial Year, 2004-05. I had the pleasure and honour of being District Governor that year. Wally was a great President and most appreciated by his fellow Centennial Presidents. It was always fun to have Wally around at our meetings and events. He will be greatly missed.
My thoughts go to his family. Wally will be missed, but fondly remembered.

Wally and I got to know each other as students at Danforth Tech and it was a pleasure to have him come to my marriage in England back in 1978. Although we were seperated by many miles we always made an effort to meet up when I was back home in Canada. I send my condolences to his family and when you feel down go and look at one of the many pictures you have of him and remember those good times which I'm sure there are many. He may be gone but he will still influence things we do in life. RIP Wally, until we meet again. Your friend Chris

Uncle Wally, or Unc as he would affectionately call himself to me has been on my mind everyday since his passing. The most wonderful thing is that in all my memories of him, I see his smile and I hear his laugh. He was a genuine person and you felt his warmth, his love and his kindness while just being in his presence. He was positive and kind soul, and always made sure you knew how much he loved his family, his car, and most definitely the Toronto Maple Leafs. He leaves a legacy that anyone would dream of, and I am so grateful to have had the privilege to call him Unc for the last 30 years. We will miss you forever and a day xox

Maria and I are so very sad over Wally’s passing. Wally was a true, genuine, lifelong friend and one of my closest companions during our tween, teen and early 20s days (and, yes, we Galt Avenue guys rode our bikes over almost every street in downtown and east-end Toronto). We endlessly played ball hockey, football, baseball, cards and board games (Wally invented double Monopoly with two boards in a figure 8 pivoted on “Free Parking”) and hung out in each others’ homes with pizza from Stella’s or Danforth Pizza House. Wally constantly tinkered and experimented and always figured out how to do what he wanted. He refurbished an old 3-speed CCM into a 30-speed by somehow mounting a 5-gear freewheel onto its old 3-speed hub and adding a double chainring onto the crank. He built radios and electronic gizmos out of found and spare parts (with the occasional shock or spark thrown-in for a little drama). I still use a very nice pair of stereo speakers he built from scratch (including the wooden cabinets). He was the first to build a workable skateboard out of old roller skates and a trend-setter when he was among the first to buy a pair of Lange molded-boot skates. Later on, as careers, children and changes of residence meant long periods without seeing Wally, he was always there for help, advice or a chat and we immediately picked-up where we’d left off. We have lost a truly wonderful man. Maria and I send our heartfelt condolences to Janet, Ashley, Helen, Irene and their families.

We are very saddened at Wally's passing. We met Wally & Janet on several occasions through our mutual friends Mary and Chris. We had a great time in Florida when they all visited us in sunny Fort Myers. We remember Wally for his happy pleasant demeanor always smiling and his love of driving his '69 red classic Firebird. Our deepest sympathies to Janet and his entire family.

To friends and family of Wally, we are so sorry for your loss. Wally touched many of our lives with kindness and on many happy moments, as well as some sad ones perhaps. We know Wally through the Banerjees and the mutual connection via Rotary. We have always enjoyed Wally's company on outings related to Rotary. For example, many nice talks during dinners including those for dinner theatre nights at the Herongate, and classic car shows including those at the Museum. It is very sad to hear of his passing. You are in our thoughts. Robin Banerjee and Amanda Helderman
