It was summer 2012 at the back of MAPANDUS on 3rd Street, playing live music with Rob Cave and brother Jeff. The sun had set and it was very dark, only one lonely light out back to keep us bright. Suddenly two individuals appeared, one with a bass guitar in hand. Without saying a word, he plugged in his bass and went to work, his bass chops so apparent. It was blatantly obvious that this kind hearted man had done this before, no rehearsal, just plugged-in and played.... adding such a bright light to our performance ! When the song ended, he introduced himself and his "side kick" , " Big Jim" on keyboards.
That was such a memorable moment for me, meeting Rick for the first time. It was the right place..... and just at the right time. As Rob alluded to, the 3rd Street Allstar Band was born !!!! Rick plugged in with us every summer thereafter.....
Rick was an amazing musician and human being. Our sincere condolences to the entire family, he will be dearly missed !
