Obituary of Zafiro "Roula" Markoulakis

Zafiro (Roula) Markoulakis (Behrakis) passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 7, 2020 surrounded by her family. Zafiro was a loving and devoted wife of 54 years to Michael Markoulakis. A loving mother of George (Kristy) and Elefteria (David). She will be dearly missed by her grandchildren Antonio, Alexander and Adriano. Zafiro is also survived by her siblings and many nieces and nephews. She was born on September 13, 1939 in Ethio, Greece to Elias and Olga Behrakis.

Zafiro was a kind hearted woman, who would help when someone was in need. She was loved by all who knew her. Her life was a living example of her favourite Bible verse, Ephesians 4:32- “And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.”

She was a dedicated mother and grandmother and her love shined bright when she saw her children and grandchildren. She treasured her children and grandchildren and embraced every moment with them. She was a beautiful soul, who made anyone who met her just adore her. She made friends everywhere she went and in 1957, at the age of 18 she decided her passion was hairdressing. She had her own shop called Roula’s Boutique for many years, until she decided to have children, and then worked from her home. Along with her husband Michael they created a space where she could continue.

As she raised her children, she emphasized each Sunday to attend church and through her words of wisdom, peace, love and forgiveness, were key in life.

She was a brave woman, who survived a stroke and breast cancer and never gave up on living. She will be greatly missed. Always in our hearts and never forgotten.
