I am truly shocked. I knew Sheila back in our Southam days and only talked a few times after, but she was one of those people that managed to touch you in a way that I can’t explains. Simply honest and kind.
Sheila was simply fun to work with and a great at baseball. Thanks for the memories Sheila

Sheila's passing was a huge shock. I never saw that coming she was so full of life. I am a physiotherapist and I came to know Sheila as a patient over the years. I really enjoyed treating and getting to know Sheila. I found Sheila to be a very caring and loving person. I know of her love for Tug. I looked forward to hearing from Sheila what inappropriate object Tug had eaten. Although thankfully he always recovered although eating the rock nearly did him in. She spoke often of her family with much love. I liked to tease Sheila about being "the crazy Aunt" to her nieces and nephews. She had a love of animals and I know how much she enjoyed working at the Vet Clinic both because of the involvement with the animals and her friends on staff. Sheila would pop by once in awhile to say hello at my clinic. I would try to bump into her while traveling to Shoppers or Tim Horton's. I was hoping to be able to attend Sheila's visitation to say hello and meet her family but that is not possible. Sorry. I am glad that I met Sheila and I know that I am a better person for being able to call her a friend. She is missed already. I wish you all comfort and strength in the difficult times ahead but I know that you all must have many cherished memories of Sheila. Memories which will be with you always.
Blessings

Well, Sheila, I hate to say good-bye. You have been our neighbour and friend for almost 50 years. You babysat our three boys and survived! We shared so much....not just the love of our gardens and talk of the history of the neighbourhood and the trees and where the lilacs came from and how to get our tomatoes to produce more fruit and "come over to see the beautiful moth"!....it was the give and take, the ebb and flow of our daily lives. And of course, lots of dog talk. You were always there to help if it were needed, you loved to share whatever you had, be it a new pastry from the bakery on 16th, or some fresh corn from Reesor's. You baked us your best brownies if Mike did something extra for you. We went to yoga together for 9 years, picked apples every fall, and sat and had a beer together at the end of a long day of mowing the lawn or weeding the garden or working at the vet clinic. You were the best, Sheila! I am so glad you were in our lives.

Sheila always looked after our theatre tickets and I always looked forward to seeing her there and her photos and stories about Tug. She is definitely gone too soon. She always made me laugh with her.
Unfortunately I cannot come on Sunday since I am recovering from surgery. Dearest condolences to her dear family and many friends.

I was a friend of Sheila’s for over 40 years. We met when I started working for Southam in the Typesetting Dept. way back in 1980. Sheila was in “markup”, and I was a proofreader. After decades of slogging through overtime, late nights and learning curves, we both finished our careers as “Art Directors.” We worked well as a team, and became friends as well, which meant that Sheila always had your back and was loyal. Sheila played on our department softball team, running out a ground ball and suffering a knee injury that required surgery – that’s how hard she played, just like she worked. For years she would have a party at her home for her co-workers and their families, and they were always a hoot. Sometime in the 1990s, she decided that it would be best for us to take a long walk before lunch, and cajoled me and a couple of others to participate. That went on for years – all seasons and all weather. She had a way of getting you to do stuff that you might not normally want to do, but she’d always say it was good for you. She was also a member of our gang of four (Sheila, Sue W., Sue H. and I) that invaded a retired friend’s house a few times a year for long lunches (during our work week). After I retired in 2010, the gang of four, plus my wife Lisa, would get together a few times each year at Sheila’s to reminisce about our work experiences, gossip about what was still going on at the office and bellyache about life in general. After moving from Toronto, we hadn’t seen Sheila, only talked or emailed occasionally. We were saddened and shocked when we heard Sheila had passed. Like others, we felt she should have been around much, much longer. I guess that she was always so willing to help others that she ran out of energy, but if she had suspected that, she would have continued on anyway. She lived with and cared for her parents until their passing, and always had concern for her friends and family. She was strong and admirable, a good person and a great friend. We will miss her, and we extend our sympathy and condolences to Sheila’s sister, Susan, and the other members of Sheila’s extended family. Rest in peace, friend.
Pete & Lisa

As a neighbour of Sheila's, she and Tug were a daily sight taking their walks, either on our street on Riverview, or in the back behind our home. I am so saddened to hear of her passing. She had a heart of gold and always had the time to discuss what was happening in the 'hood, throughout the world and especially about Tug. My deepest sympathies to Sheila's family, and fur friends who will miss her terribly. Addie Gallop xo

I have very fond memories of times spent with Sheila.
We golfed, enjoyed theatre shows, and took part in the Becel Ride for Heart over a few years, both with Paula (also left us too young and too soon) and following her death with Paula’s work colleagues.
Sheila was very kind, wise and witty. She loved her family deeply and cared immensely for her dogs.
I am grateful to have known and been a friend with Sheila.
Rest In Peace

Sheila was a neighbour of mine and we had many wonderful chats as she walked her chocolate labs over the years. She always took great interest in what was going on in the neighbourhood and was inevitably the voice of reason. I shall miss seeing her come around the corner walking Tugg and stopping to say hello. Rest in Peace.

Sheila was a very strong person who took on a lot in her life and got it all done. We were both part of the Southam/BIG employee family and I knew her for 20+ years. I am saddened to hear of her passing as I thought she would be someone who lived long enough to break records. She loved her family deeply and loved to laugh. I remember her and another of our work family members, Sue Williamson (who also left this world too soon), having some raucious and infectious laughs across the cubicle walls. I know the two of you will be laughing together once again. My condolences to your family. Rest well Sheila.

I was saddened today to hear from a former co-worker that my old colleague from Glacier Media's Business Information Group has passed at the young age of 62. Sheila Wilson was the art director for around 15 years of the two publications I co-founded and edited with business parters Arnie Gess and Todd Latham after we sold our company to Glacier (after running it independently for a decade, from 1989 to 2000). Sheila Wilson was a dedicated employee and she and I became an effective team. At the height of things between HazMat Management magazine and Solid Waste & Recycling magazine we put out 12 editions per year. As happens between movie directors and producers, working relationships can develop between magazine editors and art directors that are collaborative, fun and productive (as opposed to the toxic relationships that also arise) and Sheila and I had that fun and productive relationship. We would tease one another at times. My favourite insult was to refer to her in meetings as a "typesetter" (not what art directors like to be called). We both used to laugh with each edition of Solid Waste & Recycling as the graphic artist who drew our illustrated covers (Charles Jaffe) would always try and hide a penis somewhere in the art. I first noticed that on a totem pole Charles drew for the cover story of a waste diversion program in BC, and when I pointed it out, Sheila quipped, "Oh, he's been doing that for years... You never noticed?" Sheila was very devoted to her parents, whom she looked after, and her dog. Her work space was festooned with photos of her dog, and after our magazines were sold off in a corporate restructuring, worked in a vet office from her love of animals. In a strange synergy, I had to take my own 13-year-old dog Diesel to the vet yesterday to be euthanized over a brain tumour, so this all hits me as especially sad. God bless you Sheila. You were one of the nicest people I ever knew.

We are all so devastated over the loss of such a thoughtful, kind, and wonderful friend. Sheila was a cherished member of the MVC family. My deepest condolences to her family - I know how much she loved each and every one of you. You can judge a person's character based on how they treat their parents, family members, and pets. Sheila was one of a kind and we will never forget her.

I was just talking with Sheila last week....I will miss our chats and I will miss seeing her at Markham Vet - she always took extra special care of Bailey when I brought him in since she knew us both personally outside the clinic. Golfing and theatre were always fun when she was there.
My condolences and prayers to all who loved her.
Rest peacefully my friend.

I has been many years since Sheila and I were face to face but we kept in touch on social media. She was a special sweet person and fellow animal lover who shared her experiences caring for her dogs and others I was shocked to hear of her sudden death and more shocked to discover she kept her cardiac problems a secret. Sending love to her family.
