Obituary of Florence Winnifred Norman

Florence Winnifred (Winnie) Norman, peacefully passed away on January 7, 2019 at Bethany Lodge in Unionville, Ontario at the age of 98. Winnie was born on August 28, 1920 in Toronto, Ontario to Ethel and George McIntyre.

A funeral service will be held at Dixon-Garland Funeral Home on Saturday, January 12 at 10:30 am with Reverend Doug Crocker of Stroud Presbyterian Church officiating. A reception will be held following the service at Dixon-Garland Funeral Home.

 Winnie married Herb Norman on June 25, 1949 after working as a receptionist for an optician in Toronto. She relished her life as a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and homemaker. She enjoyed baking, knitting, sewing, and traveling. She was also an avid volunteer for Meals On Wheels, 4-H, and The Women’s Mission Circle. Winnie was an active member of First Avenue Baptist Church, Toronto, First Baptist Church, Barrie, and Stroud Presbyterian Church, Stroud.

Winnie is survived by her children; Bill (Christine) of Markham, Rick (Jannine) of Oshawa, Susan (Brian) of Renton, WA, and Fred (Trish) of Brampton.  She is also survived by her grandchildren; Michael (Sarah), Rachel (Christopher), Andrew, Ali, Matt (Krystyna), Karly, Connor, Griffin, Eric, Erin and great grandchildren; Carter, Naomi, Luke, Preston, and William. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Herbert Norman, parents, Ethel and George McIntyre I, sister, Ethel McIntyre and brother George McIntyre II.

Memorial donations may be made to Stroud Presbyterian Church, 2180 Victoria Street, Innisfil, Ontario, L9S 1K4.  The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff at Bethany Lodge, Harrington House for their loving care of Winnie.
