To me, Bob was the "salt of the earth." Kind, caring, loving, happy and with a sharp sense of humour.,He was known at Bendale B.T.I. as "Butter Tart Bob." Every day he ate a home made butter tart at lunch We often talked about his Ontario Butter Tart Tours he took with his family. He loved to talk about his dogs in the good ole Scarborough Board days. Gord and Katherine send their heartfelt sympathies to Bob's wife Norma and to Bob's daughters on this very sad occasion. Our hearts are humbled by this loving, gracious man.

Robert was a fine man whose presence was appreciated by many people including me the accordionist volunteer at Unionvilla. I got to know him better during our group trip to the Aquarium down by the CN tower this summer. We had wondeeful discussions about the exhibits. He talked about his great love for his family. He planned to return to visit the Aquarium with his wife and grandkids. Today our outing is to the Markham Fair. I was so excited at the thought of Bob and I zooming around with his wheelchair to capture photos and videoclips with the baby animals and exhibits that interest him to share again with the grandchildren. I will hold him in my heart today while i help one of his friends from Unionvilla navigate around the fairgrounds. This kind brilliant former school principal will shine like a star in the heavens to help guide our paths and remain forever in our hearts.

Dear Norma,
I was very sorry to hear about Bob's passing. Though we lost touch over the years, I retain many fond memories of the time that we spent working together at WHCI. Bob was a dynamic leader in the English Department and a good mentor as well. I hope that the sorrow that you're feeling right now, will, in time, be replaced by only happy memories of the many years that you and Bob shared together.
Sincerely,
Jim

Dear Norma and Family,
We were so very sorry to learn of Robert’s passing. We have very fond memories of you and your family, as we got our two wonderful Miniature Schnauzers, Kirby and Koko, from you back in June of 1999. Sadly, they are both gone now, but the years of love and joy we received from them are due to your loving upbringing of these incredible little dogs. We have never forgotten you, and never will. Please accept our sincerest condolences on your loss of Robert.

I am so sad to hear of Bob’s passing. I will always cherish those days with Bob and Norma at West Hill. Those were the glory days of teaching with seemingly unlimited possibilities. Then, at Bendale, Bob and I experienced the steepest possible learning curve ever with Andy Brown, preparing us to become principals. At all levels, Bob was an extraordinary educator, caring, humble and level headed. He will be sorely missed and forever remembered by so many people. My condolences to Norma and family both in Sault Ste. Marie and the GTA.

I am very saddened to hear that Bob has passed. It is far too soon to lose one of "the good guys." I always enjoyed our closed door meetings with regards to
staffing and the timetable. Bob always had a glint in his eye when things worked out for us. He had his agenda but always listened to our ideas and often just let us do what was in the best interest of Woburn. He accomplished a lot and was always a pleasure to deal with. Unfortunately, we are away or I would certainly be in Markham to show my respect and sadness.

Mrs. Gentile, Andrea, Nicolette and family: I am so sorry to hear this news and for your loss. I have been thinking back to how much fun we had as kids at the cottage - going on the boat, climbing up the treehouse or just a rainy day playing board games. Mr. Gentile was such a big part of those memories and I cherish that time. My sincere condolences, I am thinking of you all. Love, Kelly

Mr. Gentile was the principal at Woburn for 4 of 5 years I was there; he was such a nice guy and always made a point of randomly visiting the various extra-curriculars "just to say hi". Even though he didn't teach any classes, you could tell he cared about the students and just wanted everyone to have a good school experience. Thanks Mr. Gentile, rest in peace.

Although I never knew Bob well, he was the principal of Woburn when I attended as a student teacher from York and made such a positive impression on me with his kindness, his attention to detail and his unfailing support of the arts. When, years later, I had the opportunity to apply for a teaching position, it was Bob who hired me. 16 years have passed since then and I am still at Woburn and pass his picture every morning with a smile and a reminder to give my all. He will be so missed. Please accept my condolences for your loss.
