Jose "Joe" Martins

Obituary of Jose "Joe" Miguel Alves Martins

Joe Martins, 50, of Markham, died at 10:15pm on Monday, September 3 rd , 2018 at Markham Stouffville Hospital. He was born December 7 th , 1967 in Portugal to Antonio
S. Martins and Maria Emilia Martins. He came to Canada as a young child in 1970 and grew up in the family’s Scarborough home with his parents and siblings. He married the
love of his life, Linda Delcy Llanos in 2003 and raised two wonderful children; Victoria (12) and Mathew (10). Joe predeceased his parents Antonio and Maria Emilia, as well
as his siblings; Raul and Helena. Joe adored his wife and children. They were his motivation for keeping strong through his struggle with Cystic Fibrosis. Joe was given a second chance at life when he
received a set of lungs from a recipient in 2015. He and his family were full of gratitude for this extension to his life. It is befitting that in the end, Joe had the opportunity to give
back as a donor.
Joe loved to have fun. He was well known for his practical jokes, organizing parties, activities and games. Joe brought joy to anyone around him. He was selfless and
always sincerely asked others how they were doing, regardless of the struggles he had in his own life. Joe will be terribly missed by his family, many cousins, aunts, uncles
and friends who surrounded him during his last hours to share stories, a few jokes and their goodbye’s. He is a big loss to all his family.
Joe will be memorialized on September 8 th , 2018 at 11am at the Christ the King Catholic Cemetery at 7770 Steeles Ave E., Markham. The burial will follow the service. Friends
and family are invited back to Joe’s family home for a potluck in their backyard, one of Joe’s favourite ways to celebrate a family milestone.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to assist with the cost of the funeral would be much appreciated by the family.
