Obituary of Roland Gary Galway Wynn

Roland Gary Galway Wynn (April 24, 1945 - Aug 14, 2018)

Gary passed away peacefully, with his wife (Colleen) by his side at the Margaret Bahen Hospice in Newmarket. Gary is survived by Colleen (his wife of nearly 44 years) his daughter Keri, son Sean (Erin) and his beloved granddaughters Avery and Hannah as well as his "furry granddaughter", Molly. He is also survived by his brother Wayne (Gail), his sister Arlene Robinson (Ed) and countless nephews and nieces whom he loved dearly.

He was a career long educator who loved working with children and specifically teaching in the outdoors. He was a kind and generous soul who lived his life with grace and dignity. He will be missed by hundreds of co-workers as well as thousands of students whose lives he touched at the York Regional District School Board over his 30 year career. Gary started teaching in 1970 and later became a Vice Principal and the Principal.

Gary was raised and schooled in Unionville where he enjoyed all of the freedoms of life in a small farming community in the 1950's. Many of Gary's favourite stories involve skating on, or swimming in Toogood Pond as well as riding bikes with his childhood friends around the area. He went on to graduate with his B.A. in Economics from McMaster University where he met some of his lifelong friends. Later he achieved his Masters of Science in Education from Niagara University.

A small private ceremony for family will be held in the fall according to his wishes.

Gary fought a long and arduous battle with Parkinson's Disease before succumbing to a fierce but short fight with Cancer. He did, however, maintain his tremendous sense of humour throughout his whole life.

The family would like to thank all of the staff at the Margaret Bahen Hospice for their care and support.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Nature Conservancy of Canada, Parkinson Canada or the Canadian Cancer Society.
