To the entire family of Jim Parsons,
Please accept my condolence over the passing of your dear one Jim,he must be missed! Death is man's greatest enemy but take comfort in knowing that there is One who is greater and more powerful than death, God Almighty! He has promised in the scriptures that soon he will remove death, tears, suffering and pain - Revelation 21:3-4 ,Isaiah 25:8.
God also promises a time when he will resurrect our loved ones who have died including Jim! May these sure hope comfort and strengthen you and may the memories you shared with Jim keep you going. We all look forward to the near future in God's righteous new world where we would live forever without the fear of death - Psalms 37:11,29.
Best Wishes,
Lauretta A

That word “respect” recurs so aptly in our condolences. Jim was the epitome of it, constantly deserving and giving respect by nature. It’s right here in the obituary photo, in the eyes attentive to the other person and verging on his accepting smile.
My mind’s video shows that same accepting look from September 1964, when Herb shared tips about English courses with me when I was new at Edmund Hall, the student Brothers’ residence at Iona College, New Rochelle, New York, and in July 1970, in a spirituality program at Mono Mills, Ontario, and, about three years later, at Caul’s Funeral Home in St. John’s, Newfoundland, when I offered my sympathy to Jim, who had moved on in life from his Brother years.
Earlier, when the young Jim, just turned 17, joined the Christian Brothers in 1961, he took a new name, his “religious name,” as was required at the time, and I realized at the wake for Herbert Parsons (52, non-Catholic, I think) that Jim had chosen to be called “Herbert” (and “Herb”) out of respect for his father. So typical!
As my reflecting mind makes connections, respect imbues them. I remember Jim with gratitude and with condolences to all of us that Jim raised up with his respect. Jim was a capable singer, and I’ve paused here to sing “You Raise Me Up” for and with Jim: “When I am down and—oh, my soul—so weary . . . you raise me up to more than I can be.”

We were surprised and saddened to hear of Jim's passing. He seemed to be doing so well when we saw him at Christmas. We were looking forward to telling him about the play "Come From Away" and how the Newfoundlanders made Canada proud. We will miss him. Our kindest condolences to Linda, Paul, Michael and the members of both families.

Sorry to hear of Jim’s passing. Nice picture of Jim as I remember him. Jim had a great personality. In fourth year of university, Jim and two others built a raft held up by inner tubes and propelled by a paddle wheel attached to two bicycle frames. It did make several trips on the Hudson River around August 1965. Later, he acquired a more seaworthy craft and became a very good mariner. We enjoyed his visit to Newfoundland with Linda for a reunion in 2007. Prayerful condolences to Linda and family. Sorry I cannot be there. Smooth Sailing Skipper Jim.

Linda, Paul, MIchael, and all Jim's relatives, so sorry to hear of Jim's passing though we know his physical condition has been a challenge. Still untimely for one so young. He was a very nice person and a treat to chat with here in NL when he visited. Please accept our deepest sympathy and know that our thoughts and prayers are with all of you. May he rest in peace.

Jim and I lived and studied at Iona College during 1963 - 1965. A very polite and respectful man is my remembrance of Jim. I will never forget the Summer 1964 sailing adventure down the Hudson River to West Park, NY and back to Rhinecliff, NY with Jim Parsons, Jim Power, and me on a rickety homemade sailing raft with a paddle-wheel powered by 2-men on 2-bicycles. It was a long and tiring day. My condolences to Jim's wife, children, and entire family. We will miss you, Jim. Rest in Peace, Jim.

Jim hired me to be his vice-principal in 2009. We only worked together for a short time as Jim retired soon after, but in that time I learned a lot from him not just about how to run a school, but about how a good principal treats others. Jim conducted himself with a quiet dignity that earned the respect of students, parents and teachers alike; it was evident to everyone that he was a man of principle and integrity. I am so sorry to hear of Jim's passing, and my thoughts and prayers are with his family.

My husband Derm Downey (deceased) and Jim were first cousins. We all three worked together briefly many years ago at St. Patrick's Hall school. Jim came to see me after Derm died in 2013 to offer his condolences. I was so touched that Jim was so thoughtful and kind, so I offer my condolences now to his family at this so very difficult time.
God bless.

I only worked with Jim for a short time before his retirement, but he demanded well-earned respect from his students and created an environment that encouraged learning and creativity. He was a good man, and my thoughts are with his family.
