Obituary of Alan Walker

Alan Thomas Walker of Markham, Ontario, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at Markham Stouffville Hospital.

Alan was born in Toronto to Scottish immigrants Sarah and Peter Walker on October 24th, 1930. He attended Markham High School, graduating in 1947. After a few years with Northern Electric, he worked as a Customer Engineer for IBM until retirement in 1987. Alan was an accomplished self-taught draftsman and woodworker, carpenter and boatbuilder, oft times creating jigs for his myriad projects designed for home and Muskokan cottage.

Being in such a picturesque region of lake and granite vistas, Dad couldn't resist spontaneous drives to discover what lay around the many curves in the roads. These outings would entail loading five excited kids and our Dalmatian Sparki into the '64 Country Squire station wagon, and exploring we would go.

Alan is survived by his children Thomas (Tarah), Mary, James (Carol) and David (Connie) and his sister Marian Prentice (Gord d.2014), grandchildren Jason and Matthew, niece Kelly and nephews Michael and Randy Prentice. He is preceded in death by his youngest son Andrew, his first wife and mother of his children Elizabeth née Hill and his second wife Audrey Brown née Cullum.

It was our Dad's wish that there be no Funeral service. Alan was cremated Wednesday February 21, 2018. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Paresh, Lori RN, Tracy and Susan of Nurse Next Door for providing above and beyond compassionate home care to both Audrey and Alan in their last 5 years together. Special thank you to Ryan, their young neighbour, who was a good buddy to Dad.

Memorial donations may be made to Ontario SPCA, Provincial Education and Animal Centre, 16586 Woodbine Avenue, Whitchurch-Stouffville, L4A 2W3.
