Obituary of Roy Brunner

Roy Herman Brunner

Roy died on Feb 7 at Lakeridge Hospital, Oshawa, from cardiac complications, at the age of 70, with his wife at his side. Born and raised in the Kirkland Lake area (Larder Lake), he was a U of T graduate in Economics, and a Certified Economic Developer. He worked in the hospitality industry for most of his life; became VP of Nabisco, a General Manager in the Welland Business Development Centre, served on the Niagara College Board of Governors, worked in sales and marketing in publishing. He spent time as a civilian UN Peacekeeper serving in Bosnia and Angola.

He loved to travel, whether on business or on vacation, especially enjoying restaurant dining. Roy was an avid and competent boater, spending many hours on or near the water. An avid reader, good cook, and enthusiastic debater, Roy liked to entertain friends at home.

He will be sadly missed by his loving wife the Rev. Janet Stephens. Roy is survived by two daughters, Brigitte and Karen (Jason), and his son Adam; his step-sons Craig (Sue) and Derek (Christine), and six cherished grandchildren.

A funeral service and celebration of Roy’s life will be held at Grace Anglican Church, Markham, on Tuesday, February 13, at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Diabetes Canada or the Kidney Foundation, to Grace Church, Markham or St George Memorial Church, Oshawa, would be greatly appreciated. Online condolences may be made at www.dixongarland.com
