My Dad loved working on the job, side by side with his boys and Wes. Working in the office was a different story. Billing and collections were the main downsides to the business and I think, if he could have, he would have worked for free.
Being in construction, we'd learned some pretty colorful language over the years. We had a customer who refused to pay his bill. For months I called this person and finally, I wrote what I thought of him using some of that colorful language on a sticky note and placed it on Dad's copy of the invoice along with a customer copy and handed it off to Dad so that he could go to talk to this customer.
Off Dad went, with the note hidden in his file on his own copy. I'd asked him to remove it but he wanted to be reminded of how frustrating this customer had become. The customer's complaint had been the mess, which turned out to be a handful of gravel left on the edge of the grass but amounted to an incredibly large portion of the unpaid invoice. Dad reviewed the copy of the customer's bill with him and there was a question so my Dad opened his own file, not realizing the customer was suddenly standing beside him.
Dad heard sputtering from the customer and suddenly realized that there was the sticky note, in all it's colorful glory, in big one inch letters. What transpired was the customer denying what I had said he was, a cheque for the full amount and the customer's desire to meet me to prove he was a nice person.
We deposited that cheque and I still have that sticky note. It's now my reminder. And no, I declined to meet that customer.

Dad, you taught me things few fathers have taught their daughters; like running a chainsaw, lol. You gave me the gift of laughter and the confidence to try new things. You were there for my David; spending time with him and teaching him what you knew. To say you will be missed is an understatement but every time we sit at the kitchen table and laughter ensues, remembering your quick wit and sense of humor , we know you are there with us, laughing right along. Love you, Dad.

When I was a little girl and not feeling well, Uncle Pete asked me what was wrong and I told him I had a headache. He assured me he could get rid of it for me, no problem. He recommended that I allow him to kick me in the shin and that I would forget about my headache in no time. We never did try it out, but to this day if I ever get a headache, this is the first thing to come to mind. He always knew how to make me laugh and forget what was wrong.

We came to Ontario when Dan's brother Jeff got married, our girls were 1 & 3 years old now 21 & 19. We came up to there place just after dinner for a visit it was a hot humid nite in August and when we arrived Pete & Claire had a large bag of water and play toys for the girls they had a ball and we didn't go home til 3 in the morning. Uncle Pete of course had to get up and go to work in the morning but we were having a great visit so he wouldn't go to bed til we left. Unfortunately the girls don't remember the visit but they sure remember the next one.
Clare & Pete got there whole family together and had a big barbecue and the girls got to meet everyone and we had a fabulous time. They remember everything from that visit so happy they have great memories of Uncle Pete & Aunt Claire.
We love you guys and miss you may these memories bring a little joy to you on the difficult days as thy do for us....xoxo

When Dan and I got married 24 yrs ago this October , Dan had picked a family friend to to standup at wedding and say a couple words on his behalf. To this day we do not know what happened but this friend never showed up and Uncle Pete came to our rescue to this day we will never forget that he never hesitated when we asked him... My thoughts are with the whole family, how do I say it, I loved going back too the shop, a couple beers, listening to Pete's great stories, and always learning from what he had to say, from mechanical things to life issues, he always knew the answer to it all. Just wish I had done it more often. Thanks.
