Obituary of E. Gerald Jackson

E. Gerald (Gerry) Jackson, Capt. Ret., The Toronto Scottish Regiment (Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother's Own), Dec. 7 1929 - Jul. 7 2013 In Markham, Ontario after a brief illness in his 84th year. Son of the late Mabel Ethel Hodgson and Samuel Wyatt Jackson. Husband of the late Joan Marie Elliott and partner of the late Shirley Doreen Percy. Beloved father of Jennifer and John (Laura). Adoring grandfather of Evan. UTS alumnus, RCMI member, past-president of the Mississauga-Dixie Rotary Club, chairman of The Toronto Scottish Regiment Foundation. He finished his career as the sales manager for All-Ontario Cartage. An avid reader, sailor and a man who loved his Jag, Gerry's love of travel took him to 23 countries with California a special place as it was home to his children and Evan. Born in North Toronto, Gerry was devoted to his extended family of cousins in Clandeboye, Ontario and his many friends in the Tor Scots, Rotary, and the UTS class of '49. A long-time cottager at Port McNicoll, it was the focal point for friends and family to get together with Gerry at the grill. He will be missed by the Percy family—Dale (Peter), Debbie (Hal), Lisa (John), Patti (Rob) and their children and grandchildren who brought him so much joy. The family wishes to thank the caring staff at Markham Stouffville hospital, esp. Mario and Domingo who eased Gerry's transition. Our hearts broke with his passing but he would want us to "Carry On" and all of us will treasure the time we had with Gerry. A visitation will be held on Sat., Aug. 10 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at the Dixon-Garland Funeral Home, 166 Main Street, Markham. A private family interment in Clandeboye will take place on Fri., Aug. 9. As Gerry requested, a wake in his honour will be held once the RCMI re-opens. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Gerry's memory would be appreciated by the family to either the Rotary PolioPlus Fund, The Toronto Scottish Regt. Foundation (c/o Col. Hugh Stewart, 52 Kingfisher Cove Way, Markham ON L6E 1B4), or the University of Toronto Schools Foundation.
