Farmers are a special breed and Vince was a fine example--man who loved the earth and growing terrific vegetables. We'll miss those early years when we sat at Tim Horton's many mornings solving the problems of the world! We'll be thinking of you, Vince, every time we pass the farm--and Tim Hortons! Cousin Vince: You will always be known to me as Pedo (sp) which Dad could never explain where that came from. The work ethic that my predecessors like yourself have taught me is of the greatest gifts I have benefitted from. The way that you and Dad could wear baseball caps that never sat straight always made me smile. I guess it was some farmers code that I was unaware of. I am proud to call you family! Rest in peace love David.

Throwing out random words from the dictionary asking for the definition trying to stump me, singing our song by Phil Harris, smoke smoke smoke that cigarette, driving to Newmarket playing yellow car are just a few memories I am honored to have shared with you. Thank you for all the laughs and stories they will be cherished with me forever. Love you always uncle Vince, XO. Brenda 'aka' Charna

It was around 1957, a hot summer day on Markham Road. 'Peedo' as we called him, was sitting on a crate tending the family vegetable stand on the west side of the road. Back then we had to make our own fun. There was no video,no ipods; toys were a commodity. I think we got a T.V. that year to watch the Joe Louis fight. Fun was throwing rocks at passing dump trucks. Well that day in particular we thought it would be fun to throw tomatoes at Vince perched on his crate. He sat stoically staring straight ahead as tomatoes whizzed by his head. Then I connected. The chase was on. I thought I could lose him by running through the corn field. I was wrong. After a short sprint I found myself flat on my back pinned down by Vince's left hand on my chest while he squeezed a tomato in my face with his right. He didn't rub it in my face, he squeezed it. I can still remember him looking down and smiling as the seeds and juice filled my nostrils and eyes. I expected a beating. It didn't happen. He helped me to my feet and we quietly walked out of the corn field back to the stand. No words were exchanged. None had to be.
Fitty years later, I recanted the story to Vince over a pint. SHUK...he exclaimed....I never did that!
He pondered for a while and the look he gave me let me know that he remembered and felt embarassed.
I thanked him for the lesson and especially for not telling NICK.

I met Vince shortly after coming to Stouffville through a friend. Would often sit and chat some with him at Tim's over a coffee, the weather, farming, sports or his beloved Grandson Nicholas, who always made him smile when he talked about him. He was a kind man who I will miss hearing his stories. My deepest sympathies to his family. Rest in peace my Friend, blessings, Don
