Styba, Metro "Matt" Harold
November 3, 1927 - March 12, 2013
Passed away peacefully at home at the age of 85. Matt will be sadly missed by his devoted wife Elizabeth of 53 years and his sons Gary (Beverley) and Garth (Leslie). A caring and loving grandfather, he will be sadly missed by his five grandchildren, Aaron, Michael, Claire, Adrian and Cory. Predeceased by his brothers Peter, Michael and Mervin, along with his sisters Betty and Emily. He is survived by his brother Larry and sisters Eva, Love, Marie and Shirley.
Born in Roblin, Manitoba, Matt worked as a school teacher before joining the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1946. While stationed in New Brunswick, Matt met and married Elizabeth in 1959. His distinguished military career included tours of duty across Canada, Germany and Alert, North West Territories. Matt retired as a Master Warrant Officer in 1979 and settled in Markham, Ontario.
A true gentleman, Matt loved his grandchildren and always enjoyed their visits and time together. Matt is well known for his willingness to always lend a hand and could always be seen assisting family members and neighbours. Matt was an avid sportsman and enjoyed time with family members golfing, playing ball and watching his grandchildren in their various endeavours.
Friends and family may visit at the DIXON-GARLAND FUNERAL HOME, 166 Main Street N. (Markham Road) Markham on Thursday, March 14 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Patrick's Parish, 5633 Highway #7, Markham on Friday at 10 a.m. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart &Stroke Foundation, Markham Stouffville Hospital or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
