Obituary of Edmée Goveia

Edmée Lawrence Gordon Goveia
August 13, 1932 – April 24, 2024

Our loving, kind, joyous “Eddie” passed away peacefully with her children by her side at Markham Stouffville Hospital on April 24, 2024. Married to and adored by our dad for 65 years, she is now reunited with the love of her life who she missed every day since December 12, 2016.

She is survived by and will be deeply missed by her 5 children: Al, Kathy, Diane, Bruce and Margaret, and by her 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren: Amanda, Jenna, Brent, Lindsay, Jake, Luke and Noa, and wee Oliver and Elliott.

Mom effortlessly brought joy and love to everyone in her orbit and was happiest when surrounded by her family and friends. She opened her loving home to any niece or nephew who needed a place to stay and would do anything for a friend or loved one.

Mom and Dad immigrated from Guyana to Canada in their second year of marriage with Al as a baby. With no cooking experience, she went from zero to legendary cook and then on to become the hostess of fabulous parties. Whether hosting 25 or 100 loved ones, Edmée’s parties were epic events filled with music, laughter and fantastic food. Her curry chicken and shortbread cookies were legendary!

Edmée had a fun-loving and spontaneous spirit, always happy to jump on the back of Dad’s motorcycle, or into the boat for an adventure. She excelled at everything she did, including selling Avon for 40 years, achieving the highest accomplishment of the President’s Club for top sales, year after year, with many of her customers becoming dear friends.

A true giver in every sense of the word, Mom loved caring for others and making people happy, whether her own children and husband or whomever she encountered in her daily life. She had a way of spreading warmth, and if you knew her, she would share her abundant love with you.

Edmée will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
