Obituary of Clara Louise George

GEORGE, CLARA (KAY) LOUISE (nee Cater)
December 24, 1931 - January 18, 2024

Peacefully, at Amica Swan Lake with her family by her side at the age of 92.

Clara is survived by her beloved husband of 60 years, David.

Cherished mother of Lynne Lackie (Barry) of Brockville, Lisa Bowditch (Scott) of Rideau Lakes, and Mark George (Tania) of Markham.

Much-loved Grandma of Jessica (Peter), Tyler (Emily), Tanner (Alyssa), Madison, Troy, Mason, Mikayla and Connor.

Survived by her brother Maxwell Cater (Mavis) of Fredericton, New Brunswick.

Predeceased by her parents George and Katie Cater, by her brothers John, Tommy, Lloyd, and her sister Phyllis.

Clara was born in Grand Falls, Newfoundland where she worked for the CBC. A devoted mother and wife, she relocated with her young family to Ontario in the seventies. There she became heavily involved
in the Association for Children with Learning Disabilities, volunteering her time for many years to helping families in need.

Her favorite pastime was boating with her family, spending many summers on Lake Ontario and vacationing year after year in the 1000 Islands. She was a selfless mother to her 3 children and a beloved and doting grandmother to her 8 grandchildren.

She will be fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews.

Clara was a Christmas Eve baby and her family will forever carry with them fond memories of happy christmas-themed birthday celebrations gathered around their cherished Grandma.

The family would like to thank the staff at Amica for their unwavering care and support of mom over the past eighteen months. We were blessed to have some very special individuals assigned to her care.

We would also like to send a very special thank you to Marhea Benn-Mucket. We are incredibly grateful for her loving companionship and compassionate care of mom over the past two years.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Clara’s memory can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada or The Salvation Army.
