Margaret Breau

Obituary of Margaret Breau

BREAU, Margaret (nee HANSON), March 21, 1943 – June 25, 2023.

After the graceful acceptance of incurable cancer, Margaret passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 25, 2023 at Hill House Hospice at the age of 80.  Cherished wife to Don for 55 years and loving mother to David (Nicole) and Daniel.  Margaret will be sadly missed by her grandsons Jackson and Sebastian. She was the cherished sister of David Hanson (Marion) and aunt to many nieces and nephews in the Hanson and Breau families.

Margaret was born in Greenock, Scotland and made her way to Canada in 1966, to visit with friends and family and ended up staying to start a new life.  She befriended Wendy in 1978 and they have been best friends ever since.  Margaret settled in the Danforth area of Toronto and then moved to the growing village of Markham in 1972 where she lived, worked, raised a family, and enjoyed her retirement years.

Her early career was at IBM, both in Scotland and Canada.  Margaret took time away from the business world to raise a family and then chose a different career path as an educational support worker.  Many fulfilling days, friendships and fond memories followed in the almost 30 years of supporting great kids at St. Brother Andre CHS and Father Michael McGivney Catholic Academy before retiring at the age of 75!  Kind-hearted, principled, and loyal, Margaret nurtured many deep and enduring friendships.

The gathering of family and friends, especially for holidays, was always a priority for Margaret.  Good times were had with good food and great company in a variety of places between the kitchen, backyard deck, local restaurants, movies, musicals, and car rides to favourite destinations in southern Ontario.

Friends will be received at the Dixon-Garland Funeral Home, 166 Main Street North, Markham, on Wednesday, July 5th, 2023 and on Thursday, July 6th, 2023 from 5-7pm. Margaret’s funeral mass will be celebrated in St Patrick’s Parish, 5633 Highway #7, on Friday, July 7th, 2023 at 1030 a.m.  A private cremation and interment will follow.

If desired, donations in Margaret’s memory may be made to Hill House Hospice and would be appreciated by the family.
