Madaliene Alice McKinnon (nee Bone)

June 10, 1933 – August 22, 2026

Madaliene has gained her beautiful wings after passing peacefully at Markham Stouffville Hospital at the age of 93.  She lived a life filled with family, friendship, faith and love. She had a fighting spirit, overcoming many ailments in the past 15 years, landing back on her feet and ready for another adventure until very recently.  When our heavenly Father called her home, she went serenely.

She was devoted to family, who meant everything to her.  She was predeceased by her father Adrian, mother Lucy, and siblings Kathy (Harold) and Hubert (Bernice). Also predeceased by her beloved husband James (Jim), she was a proud and loving mother to Ken (Glenda), Diane (Henry, predeceased), Michael (Susan), Mark (predeceased) and Wendy.  Cherished grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother to Leslie (Rob), Richard (Kristin), Aaron (Nicole), Chase (Katherine), Taylor, Avery, Jesse (predeceased), Laura (Nathan), Nic (Leah), Anna, Lily, Carter, Parker, Henry, Amber, and Ana.  She was also treasured by numerous nieces and nephews. 

Born in Calgary and raised in Drumheller, she felt fortunate to have lived in many wonderful communities across Canada.  With Jim and their growing family, they lived in Calgary, Lethbridge, Oakville, Vancouver, Halifax and Markham. While the moves could be difficult with young children, she considered it a blessing to be able to experience our fine country from coast to coast.  Once they settled in Markham in 1969, they planted their roots and Madaliene became a vibrant member of the community, active in the Catholic Church, sports clubs, craft guilds, and Sick Kids Hospital where she volunteered in the NICU for almost 20 years.

Her kindness, gentle smile, faith in God, and unwavering love for family and friends will be remembered always.  She had an adventurous spirit and enjoyed exploring new places and meeting new people.  She was well-informed and had a love of learning and listening to the thoughts of others. 

Madaliene will be remembered for her generous heart, creative mind, thoughtful spirit, and willingness to help those in need. Her warmth, wisdom, and unconditional love touched the lives of many. She leaves a long trail of warm memories that will provide smiles and comfort to those who knew her for many years to come.

Family and friends will be received at Dixon Garland Funeral Home at 166 Main Street Markham North in Markham on Sunday, August 30 from 2-5 PM.  Funeral services will take place at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church at 5633 Hwy 7 in Markham on Monday, August 31 at 10 AM.  A reception will follow at Dixon Garland Funeral Home. 

The family wishes to thank the staff at Markham Stouffville Hospital, Dr. James Gorman and his team, the staff of The Chemist Pharmacy, OHAH and all of her PSW’s for the outstanding care of our mother.  For those who wish, memorial contributions can be make to Sick Kids Hospital.
