George "Don" Donald Morgan

March 27, 1948 – August 15, 2026

Don was an underrated human. Anyone who met him could feel his gentle presence and loving warmth from a mile away. That peaceful demeanor served him well in his profession as a social worker, a career he spent with many organizations and finished at Markham Stouffville Hospital, where he served his clients selflessly for twenty-one years. He lived for his work and deeply loved helping others in any way he could. He knew what it was to hurt, and rather than let that harden him, he turned it into something useful. His own pain became the thing that let him meet other people in theirs. He cared, truly and without exception, about every single person he came into contact with.

You were the gentlest man we knew.

Don was always ahead of his time, making homemade yogurt in his twenties and using EFT, Myers-Briggs and the Enneagram with his clients long before they were cool. He loved telling a good dad joke and enjoyed them more than anyone else in the room, every time. Most of all, everyone who knew him felt seen and understood by him.

You saw people. That was your gift.

What he loved most, though, was his family. Give him his people around a table, a good conversation, and a tall glass of Shiraz, and he had everything he wanted. He will be forever loved and cherished by his family; Loretta, his steadfast supporter for over 40 years and their children, Sarah (Jay), Lauren (Tommy), Chris (Mackenzie), their two grandchildren, Cameron and Quinn; and his sister Cathie, living down under.

You were always there, always listening, always caring.

He had a fighting spirit right to the end and when it was his time went peacefully, surrounded by his family. Family and friends are warmly invited to attend Mass at St. Patrick’s Parish in Markham on Wednesday August 19 at 10:30 am and to come together afterward to celebrate his life at the family home in Greenwood. Help us raise a glass to Don and celebrate him the way he would want, with a glass of Yellowtail Shiraz in hand.
