Jan. 15th, 1953 - Aug. 4th, 2026

Carol Miriam Wideman died of a heart attack at her home in Hamilton on Queen Street where she had lived for the past 32 years. She was predeceased by her parents Willis and Elmina (Cressman) Wideman, brothers Gordon (Hannah ) and John (Gwen), sisters Elsie (John T. Reesor), Elva (John Dike), and Loreen (Homer Witmer), and sisters-in-law Mildred (David) and Margaret (John T.). She is survived by sister Mary (Paul Schlichter) and sisters-in-law Gwen (John) and Florence (John T.), brothers David (Verna), Howard (Mary), Merle (Karen), Willis (Kathy), and many nieces and nephews.

On January 15, 1953, Carol was born in the Briarbush Hospital, Stouffville and grew up on the family farm on Highway 47 near Lincolnville. The youngest of 11 children, she attended Bloomington Public School and Stouffville District High School, then enrolled in the Registered Nursing Assistant course in Newmarket High School.

Carol was "an independent woman who proudly marched to the beat of her own drum". She was renowned for remembering everyone’s birthday, usually with cards or phone calls. She was known for her gregarious smile. She was up to date on current events, being an avid reader of the Hamilton Spectator. She enjoyed baking, sewing, and knitting baby clothes. She liked camping at the Pinery. For several years, she lived at Baldwin House before moving into her own apartment. She was a skilled industrial seamstress, employed at Goodwill Amity Hamilton, making upholstered sofa cushions. She was a faithful participant at Philpott Church, a community of grace, in downtown Hamilton for many years. 

Burial will take place at Wideman Mennonite Cemetery on Tuesday, August 18th, 2026 at 1:30 pm.
