William John Mutch Obituary
William “Bill” Mutch passed away peacefully at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto, Ontario, on May 31, 2026, surrounded by family, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on February 26, 1952, in Earnscliffe, Prince Edward Island, Bill was the son of the late Charlie and Muriel Mutch (née Jones). Prince Edward Island always remained close to his heart and was a place he proudly called home throughout his life.
Bill is lovingly remembered by his children, Joshua (Ashley Bird) and Chelsea (Rob Tracey), his partner, Laurie Magee, and the children’s mother, Linda Armstrong Mutch. He was a deeply devoted father whose greatest pride and joy were his children. Bill built his life around Joshua and Chelsea, always putting them first. He took immense pride in watching them grow into caring, successful adults, supporting them through every decision and challenge.
Recently, he often spoke of his happiness in seeing them find loving partners and fulfilling lives.
Bill attended the University of Prince Edward Island, where he earned both a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Education. Following graduation, he began his professional career in Ottawa, then He moved with the company to Markham, where he worked until his retirement in 2012. In his later years, Bill returned to Prince Edward Island, where he became the primary caregiver for both of his parents until their passing.
Bill was known for his gentle spirit and compassionate heart. He had a remarkable ability to care deeply for others and could never turn away from anyone—or anything—in need. Whether helping a friend through difficult times, caring for animals, or tending to an injured bird, his kindness and generosity left a lasting impression on all who knew him. He also had a passion for woodworking and spent many hours in his workshop creating innovative designs. His handcrafted birdhouses were especially admired and always in high demand.
He is survived by his brothers, David (Maryanne) of Battle Creek, Michigan, and Bob (Barbara) of Oakville, Ontario; and by his sister, Merilyn MacRae (Richard) of Earnscliffe, PEI. He will also be dearly missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Bill was predeceased by his parents, Charlie and Muriel Mutch; his sister, Heather; and his infant brother, Harold Arthur.
Bill’s love for Prince Edward Island ran deep, and he treasured every opportunity to return home for summer visits with family and friends. He will be remembered for his loving heart, unwavering devotion to family, and the kindness he showed to all living things.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at St. Michael’s Hospital for their compassionate care and support during Bill’s illness.
