Ruben Victor Diaz passed away at his home on Friday, January 16, in Markham, Ontario. He died unexpectedly, with his wife of 58 years by his side.
Born June 19, 1946 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Ruben was the only child to Amelia Dora and Victor Diaz. He had dreams of playing professional soccer and loved music. He was an amateur singer in his early 20s and also enjoyed playing guitar and piano. He went on to play semi-professional soccer until he tore his ACL.
He dabbled in various careers throughout his life--from realtor to restaurateur. He became a welder later in life and moved to Canada with his wife and daughter in 1990.
Recently, he had been diagnosed with mental cognitive impairment and was slowly losing his memory. But he never lost his laughter and humour. He had a great spirit. He was always well-liked and respected by his friends and family.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife Luisa, daughter Natalia, grandkids Lorelei and Oliver, and son-in-law Erik.
Thank you for the overwhelming support of all our family, friends, and neighbours. Your generosity has filled our heavy hearts with gratitude and love during this difficult time.
The family will honour Ruben privately, with a Celebration of Life announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada
