Obituary of Matylda Soltysiak
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Matylda Soltysiak on January 5, 2026. Matylda was a special and wonderful person. She will be greatly missed by everyone that had the fortune of meeting her. Matylda was predeceased by her beloved husband Edward and her cherished siblings Irena (Henryk) and Emil (Denese). She is survived by her cherished sister Fredzia and her children. Matylda was a beloved mother of Marek (Hania), Urszula, and Piotr (Dorota); a beloved aunt to Wandzia (Maciej); and an adored grandmother of Kuba (Ema), Philip (Kelsey), Tomek, Ania, Agnieszka, Joasia, Max, Maja, and Martin; and a great-grandmother to Eliza, Mattias, Zosia and Kajetan. Matylda was born in Romania in 1934 into a Polish/German family. Following WWII, she settled with her family in Poland, where she completed her education, She enjoyed working in different government agencies in Poland in various roles for many years. Matylda immigrated to Canada with her family in 1977 and settled in St.Catharines. She worked for many years as support staff at a local hospital. She thoroughly enjoyed her job and was always eager to help others. Matylda was married to her beloved husband, Edward, for 67 years. It was a beautiful marriage founded on Christian values, mutual respect and devotion to their children. Matylda and Edward were devout Catholics and were long-standing and respected members of their parish. Matylda enjoyed going to church and socializing with her friends and relatives. Another important aspect of Matylda’s life was music. As a young lady, she sang in a church choir. She also made sure that all of her children played musical instruments and received a thorough music education. She loved attending their concerts and made sure to take them to the philharmonic. This made a life-long impact on them. Matylda also loved spending time with her husband, Edward, in their beautiful garden. She loved picking blackberries, raspberries, roses, and enjoyed occasional visits from our dogs, local birds and rabbits. However, the visits Babcia Madzia enjoyed the most were from her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren -- all of whom will remember and forever be affected by Babcia’s tender personality, love, and kindness.
