Michelle Anne Simson Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Michelle Simson, who left us on December 10, 2025, in Kingston, Ontario, at the age of 72. Born on July 10, 1953, in Toronto, Ontario, Michelle was the beloved daughter of Gordon Taylor and Shirley McBride.

Michelle is survived by her devoted husband George, who was by her side when she passed and with whom she shared a loving partnership for over 51 years, having married in Scarborough in May 1975. Together, they built a beautiful family, including loving son Eric, daughter-in-law Melissa and grandsons, Gabe and Gus, who were the delight of her later years. Michelle was also a loving sister to Kim, Debbie, Chris, and John and friend to many.

Michelle’s life was marked by her dedication to public service and her deep commitment to her community. From October 2008 to May 2011, she served as a Member of Parliament representing Scarborough Southwest, where she was known for her integrity and dedication to transparency and issues impacting woman. Her exemplary work in public service earned her notable honors, including the Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee Medal and the Canadian Taxpayers Federation Award for transparency in expense disclosures. Prior to her political career, Michelle was the General Manager of a leasing firm in Scarborough, demonstrating her strong leadership and business acumen. In addition to her professional achievements, Michelle was deeply involved in her community, volunteering her time and service as the President of the Ontario Woman's Liberal Commission, Fundraising co-chair of the Bridge Hospice in Warkworth ON, Board Member of Homeowners Associations in both Markham and Palm Springs, and Treasurer of her son's minor hockey league.

Michelle's passion for politics continued into her retired life well after public service both as an avid consumer and ardent commentator, notably as part of The Beauties and the Beast panel of the Roy Green Radio Show. She was also Crossword fanatic and Bridge enthusiast and fierce competitor.

Michelle was a beautiful and principled person that possessed a sharp wit and charm, coupled with a calming wisdom that comforted those around her. Her patience and sociability were unparalleled, and she always prioritized the interests of others above her own. Michelle's spirit, strength, and guidance will be missed dearly by her family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Campbellford Memorial Hospital Foundation, an organization close to Michelle’s heart.

As we celebrate the remarkable life of Michelle Simson, we remember her laughter, her kindness, and her unwavering dedication to her family and community. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of all those she touched. Rest in peace, dear Michelle. You will be forever missed but never forgotten.
