Obituary of Renate Hedwig Elisabeth Tomasella

Our beloved Renate Tomasella (Ziezold) passed away on Tuesday, November 4, 2025. Devoted wife of the late Vincent Tomasella and loving mother to Natalie, Nadine (Adam) and Nicole (Lisa). Loving Omi to Olivia and Sophia. Renate is survived by her twin brother Hans Bruno and was predeceased by her loving older brothers Gunter and Dieter. 

Renate will be best remembered for her many years coaching figure skating at the Ice Galaxy with the Scarborough Figure Skating Club, her deep passion for the sport shone through in every skater she taught, leaving a lasting legacy both on and off the ice.

Beyond the rink, Renate’s spirited personality, quick wit, and unique outlook on life brought up in post-war East Germany, she carried with her resilience and determination that shaped the values she instilled in her daily - ensuring her three children had the opportunities she herself had once gone without.

Renate’s greatest joys were her two grandchildren Olivia and Sophia, who brought endless pride and happiness into her life. She was also a lifelong animal lover, always opening her heart to any animal that crossed her path, whether a kitten or a skunk, she fed them all.

The celebration of life will be held at the Old Country Inn - 198 Unionville Main Street on Saturday, November 15th from 1pm-4pm (drop in). Join us as we celebrate Renate’s life and help share some wonderful memories.
