Sharon Platteel passed away peacefully, at the age of 79, at Markham Stouffville Hospital on October 18, 2025, after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. She is lovingly remembered by her husband Anthony (Ton), her children Mark (Karen), Derek and Michelle (Eric), her grandchildren Audrey, Evelyn, Sebastian, Dylan and Tyler, her younger siblings Lynda (Darryl), Larry (Leslie) and Debbie (Phil), sister-in-law Karin, her nieces and nephews Scott (Cheryl), Tina (Chris), Danielle, Shaun (Amy), Paul (Laurie), Keri (Marco) and Nicole (John), her cousins, her great nieces and nephews, and a very long list of close friends that she developed over a life well lived. She was predeceased by her parents Paul and Marjorie Jolicoeur and her nephew Stephen (Amanda). She was born on October 10, 1946, and raised in Richmond Hill. She moved to Vancouver in 1972, where she raised her children and made wonderful memories. She moved to Markham in 1998 with her family in order to be closer to her extended family. Sharon was a member of many clubs, groups and sororities and her positive energy and sociability allowed her to make friends easily. She loved organizing and hosting gatherings and spending time with her friend groups and family. Her greatest joy was being “Oma” to her grandchildren, including organizing outings, crafts, baking, reading and trips. As per Sharon’s wishes, a cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at Markham District Veterans Association’s Hall (7 Washington St., Markham) from 1-4 p.m. on Saturday, November 29, 2025. Sharon’s family wishes to thank Dr. Leena Hajra and all of her other caregivers over the past few years at Markham Stouffville Hospital and Princess Margaret Hospital.
