Obituary of Linda Christine Conde
Linda Conde, peacefully at Woodhaven LTC on October 12, 2025, she is predeceased by her parents Cornelius Dirks and Laurette Dorge.
Born in Winnipeg on April 11, 1952 Linda went on to live in Regina and Markham, Ontario, becoming a master quilter, carrying on the craft of her grandmother. She often took over the living room to baste her next creation, and sat for hours with her hoop watching Law and Order and Cheers reruns while she worked. She found her community with fellow crafters in Regina and with the Markham Guild of Village Crafts, participating in holiday sales, crafting demonstrations and teaching.
She was opinionated and a feminist, and despite having had a stroke in 2001, continued to share her preferences and direct her care (often loudly). She did not hesitate to call out people who blocked an accessible ramp and used her stealth humour to surprise those who were unfamiliar with her personality. “I’m a tough broad,” she’d say, “and I’ve survived damned near everything.”
In recent years Linda had declared herself “the Mayor of Rouge River” at the Woodhaven and loved word games, dominos, the Blue Jays, pub nights, and bowling with her community there. She enthusiastically provided feedback for improvement to the residents’ committee, including that pasta should always be served with garlic bread, and that there should be dessert after every meal.
Linda will be deeply missed by her husband Ross, daughter Lise, son Alex, and daughter-in-law Jaimie, the Wilson and Maclean families, her brothers David (Mary Anne) and Paul (Julie) and the extended Dirks, Dorge and MacLeod clans along with many friends and the staff and volunteers at the Woodhaven where she’s lived since 2003.
In Linda’s memory, we encourage you to indulge in something chocolate in honour of her legendary sweet tooth. Linda would never, ever, put raisins where chocolate chips should be.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation are appreciated.
