Wayne William McCord Obituary

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Wayne William McCord on September 29, 2025 at Markham-Stouffville Hospital at age 83.

Wayne will be sadly missed by wife Margaret, daughters Pam (husband Greg Gerald) and Heather (husband Trevor Taylor).  Wayne was a very proud Grandfather to Reilly, Tyler and Ainsley Gerald and Hannah and Sarah Taylor.

Wayne was born and raised in his namesake town of McCord, Saskatchewan and his home town remained near and dear to him throughout his entire life.  Frequent road trips back to the family home in McCord were very special to him.  There, the comfort of old friends and family made him feel reconnected to his roots.  The McCord family reunion, organized by Wayne in 2008, stands out as one of the great highlights of his many journeys home and he was proud to share this experience with his extended family. Wayne will be missed by his friends and family in Saskatchewan, including his sister Lynda and also his sister-in-law Evelyn (husband Al) Conlon of Kenora, Ontario.

Those who knew Wayne knew that he was always impeccably dressed.  Family celebrations around the dinner table more often than not provided Wayne an audience for a passionate discourse on politics, and he was never one to shy away about his views across a broad spectrum of issues.

Wayne had a passion for travel and enjoyed his trips, many shared with Margaret and/or his longtime friend Jim Huyghebaert (predeceased).  With Jim he visited Africa, Egypt, India, Thailand and Vietnam.

Never content with being a traditional Grandpa, Wayne would gift his grandchildren with things like boxes of bacon or fashionable clothes from Macy's at Christmas time. In Saskatchewan, he taught two of them how to drive a car in rural Saskatchewan even though their feet could barely reach the pedals and shared with them the finer points of exploding pop cans with an air rifle under his careful supervision.

Wayne spent his working life in transportation logistics, ending his career with his partner Dave Uhrig and their business Consolidated Carriers.

The family would like to thank the staff at Buckingham Manor for the care he received, along with the Doctors and Nurses at Markham-Stouffville Hospital, in particular Dr. Yermath.

A visitation will be held at Dixon Garland on October 18th, 2025 from 2:00-5:00.

In lieu of flowers, any donations to the Alzheimer's Society or Markham-Stouffville Hospital are appreciated by the family.
