Obituary of Barbara Jean Robertson

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the peaceful passing of Barbara Jean Robertson (nee Clark) on September 13, 2025, at Markham Stouffville Hospital, after a courageous and hard-fought battle with cancer.

Predeceased by her parents, Josephine and Donald, brother Andrew, and beloved son Scott, Barbara is survived by her devoted daughter, Clare, treasured sister Rosemary (Steve), nieces Deborah, Rebecca, and Emma in England and sister-in-law Judith in Capetown South Africa. Barbara will also be deeply missed by countless friends whose lives have been forever touched by her warmth.

Born and raised in Bury, England, Barbara attended Bury Convent School alongside her sister Rosemary where their mother Josephine also taught French. As a young woman with a family of her own, Barbara emigrated to Canada in the early eighties, settling in Markham where she built a life rooted in love, resilience, and community.

Her greatest joy was raising Clare and Scott and she loved them both without measure. Her work ethic and devotion will indeed be part of her legacy. Fishing was her happy place, and Barbara cherished being out on the lake in a boat, often reeling in fish that were bigger than herself. Barbara will be remembered as courageous, feisty, fiercely loyal, and always ready to share laughter and love with those around her.

Barbara leaves behind memories filled with joy, strength, and unwavering friendship. Though her journey here has ended, her spirit sails on in the hearts of those she loved, creating ripples that will continue to be felt by all who knew her.

The family would like to extend our deep appreciation to the Onocology Department at the Markham Stouffville Hospital. Special recognition goes to Doctor Babak who truly went above and beyond in providing such compassionate care. In addition, many thanks to the Palliative care team for dignity you provided. 

Friends will be received at Dixon-Garland Funeral Home on Sunday, September 21, 20025 from 10am until time of Celebration of Life in the Chapel at 11am. Interment Elmwood Cemetery.
