Obituary of Susan Patricia Richardet
It is with deep sorrow and much love that we announce the passing of Susan Richardet on June 19, 2025 at the age of 69. Susan passed away at home, in Markham after a courageous short battle with cancer, which she fought with grace and strength.
Born in Nova Scotia, as an only child, Susan eventually made her way to Ontario where she began to build her life. Susan shared 32 wonderful years with her beloved Bill Virdiramo. She showed up one day on Bill’s doorstep looking for a job and the rest is history. Together they built Cedargrove Greenhouses, a reflection of their shared passion and a place that blossomed under their care. Through it, they grew more than plants – they grew community, friendships and joy.
Susan touched the hearts of many through her warmth, creativity and generosity. She found great joy in the kitchen, baking and cooking heartfelt home cooked meals, from mince pies to cabbage rolls. She was known as the ‘Queen of butter tarts’. Susan mastered the butter tarts, a cherished recipe passed down from Bill’s son John. When John became ill and could no longer continue his electrical business, he turned to baking butter tarts and pies, selling them at the greenhouse. It became a meaningful way for him to stay busy and share comfort with others through his baking. Sadly, John passed away and Susan carried on his legacy perfecting the butter tarts in his honour.
Baking wasn’t the only one of Susan’s many talents. Whether it was a garden tool or paint brush in her hand, an old shoe or a worn purse turned into a flower-filled treasure, spoons and tea cups were crafted into wind chimes, something beautiful from the simplest things. She truly had a gift for turning the ordinary into something special and works of art. Susan was a woman of strength, fueled by passion, dedication and boundless energy. She spent countless hours doing what she loved most, pouring her heart in all that she did leaving beauty wherever she went.
Susan had a one-of-a-kind infectious laugh, a warm big smile and a heart of gold who cared deeply for everyone around her. She is survived by her son Michael Richardet, as well as all the Virdiramo families, brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, many nieces, nephews, friends and entire Cedargrove community customers.
She was deeply loved and will be sadly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. A sincere and heartfelt thank you to Markham Stouffville Hospital and Dr. Trinkaus for their compassionate care and unwavering support during Susan’s short battle. Bill extends his deepest gratitude for the exceptional care a 10/10— truly above and beyond.
In keeping with Susan’s wishes, cremation will take place and a Celebration of Life to follow this fall. For those who wish to honour Susan’s memory, donations to Oak Valley Health - Markham Stouffville Hospital or the Canadian Cancer Society would be deeply appreciated.
