My condolences to my Aunt Maureen and her family.
Uncle Fred was a kind and gentle man. His tall strong stature and deep voice intimidated me when I was a young boy but I came to know him as a gentle giant. I have many fond memories of visiting Fred, Maureen, and their three children, at Xmas and other occasions. I was honoured to be the ring bearer at his wedding to Maureen when I was about five years old. Their long successful marriage reflects the remarkable qualities of them both. I will miss his deep laughter and his peaceful demeanour. May he rest in peace.

I feel a deep sadness to learn that the last of Grampa Bill and Gramma Polly’s sons has passed away. Although we never got to see much of Uncle Fred, I do remember him being dignified, tall dark and handsome! When I was ten my family suddenly moved to Europe and the last person I recall seeing was Uncle Fred, who came out of his way to the airport to say good bye during our Toronto layover. I learned later the astonishing details of that move and how much Uncle Fred helped my parents. My mother often mentioned Fred’s calm and kind support. Decades later it was a pleasure to reconnect with him via email and became pen pals in a way. He would tell me little bits of his day, the view from his window, always glossing over any health difficulties. I admired his acceptance of the inevitable aging process and how he found happiness in little things. He often expressed his reliance on Aunt Maureen over the past few years and his appreciation for her care was evident in his correspondence. After looking forward to his little notes and updates, I find myself already missing those… Sending heartfelt condolences to Aunt Maureen and my three cousins, Catherine, William and Alex. Warm hugs from British Columbia to you all.

Very sad to hear about this. Fred and Maureen and the rest of your family were super kind to me when I was in Toronto, inviting me to family events when I was so far away from my own family. It was kind of Fred to take around my Grandpa (his uncle Nick) when he visited many years ago.
Thinking of you and your family during this time,
Cousin Jennifer
