Obituary of Brian Cunliffe

CUNLIFFE, Brian (1929-2025)

Passed away peacefully on February 10, 2025 in his 96 th year. Predeceased by loving wife Catherine (Kitty) and siblings Jeff, Doris and Irene. Beloved father to Andrew (deceased) and wife Jessica, and Ian and wife Tracy. Proud “Papi” to Michael, Taya and Georgia. A 40+ year executive for Burroughs Business Machines Ltd, Brian took great pride in his work and was a mentor to many who followed in his footsteps. An avid cyclist, he rode almost daily and in later years participated in many cross-continent trips with his best cycling friends, Eric Booth, Johnny Black and Brice Holland. His last long trip was across Italy in 2002 at the age of 72. When he could no longer navigate the roads due to eyesight, he mounted his racing bike on an indoor trainer so he could continue to ride. And when he could no longer balance well enough, he switched to a stationary bike that he rode daily until December of 2024.

Brian will be remembered by his remaining family for his unwavering support, his witty stories and his voracious appetite! Friends and family are invited to remember Brian on Tuesday, February 18, from 7-9 pm at Dixon- Garland Funeral Home, 166 Main Street North, Markham. It will be a casual gathering (no formal service) with some simple words of remembrance spoken throughout the evening by any who would like to share.
