Obituary of Donna Svistunenko

Donna Svistunenko
May 1, 1937 – January 29, 2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Donna Svistunenko. Donna was in her 87 th year and peacefully passed in her sleep on January 29 at Cedarvale Lodge in Keswick. Loving wife of 62 incredible years to Igors Svistunenko, devoted mother to three wonderful daughters, Ingrid Wolf (Andrew Wolf), Wendy Bagarus (Les Bagarus), Kristina (Tina) Svistunenko (Andrew Haischt) and loving grandmother to the late Faith Vincent.

Donna will be missed by her sister Joy Gray-Donald, in-laws Juris and Edith Svistunenko, and cousins Jim Lisson, Jim Adams, Karen Herkamp and Rob Legge. Donna lived a full life and her spirit prevailed despite the effects of a major stroke over the last 10 years. She was an inspiring teacher in both Montreal and especially to her Grade 1 students in Markham. She was an avid bridge player, also enjoying curling which she took up upon retirement.

Visitation will take place on Friday March 21 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at the Dixon Garland Funeral Home, 166 Main Street Markham North, Markham, ON, L3P 1Y3. A celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:30pm on Saturday March 22 at St. Philip’s on-the-hill, 9400 Kennedy Road, Markham, ON, L6C 1N6.
