Charles Shasky

Obituary of Charles Walter Shasky

Charles Walter (“Charlie”) Shasky passed away peacefully at Markham Stouffville Hospital on Easter Sunday, April 1, 2018, surrounded by his family.

Charlie was one of a kind.

He was a larger-than- life, gregarious, generous, loving, loud, sentimental and loyal man who was devoted to his family, his wife of 65 years, Mary Louise (nee Markle), five children, Barbara (Peter), Ken (Arnaly), Cathy (Harry), Jim (Jacki) and Mike (Mary). He was so very proud of his 9 grandchildren (Justin, Matthew, Brendan, Lauren, Michael, Christopher, Steven, Wade and Daniel). Oh yes, he also loved his Bichon Frise (Lily).

Founder of a successful national food brokerage bearing his name (C.W. Shasky Associates), he was a salesman who believed in the nobility of sales as a calling and in the importance of fairness and honesty in all his business dealings. His philanthropy was quiet but far- reaching, always helping those less fortunate. He never forgot his roots, born in Narol, Manitoba, “rich in poverty”, and growing up in a farmhouse on the prairie with dirt floors and a long, cold walk to the outhouse.

A religious man, he attended Catholic church every day until he was no longer able and sang all the hymns (loudly and off key). We will miss his laughter, his stories, his (sometimes lame) jokes, the twinkle in his eye and his infectious smile.
